RED BANK, NJ – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County (BGCM) will present a special exhibition showcasing the talents of young artists at Gallery U in Red Bank on Monday, March 25th from 4-7pm. The “From Our heARTs” exhibit is part of the Clubs’ preparation to participate in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts Exhibit Program.
Gallery U, located at 80 Broad Street, is generously donating the space for the evening, and this will be the second annual art show presented in Red Bank by BGCM. The artists range in age from 5 to 16 and are all members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County’s Red Bank Unit. Proceeds for all art sold will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County. BGCM is one of 4,000 Clubs across the country joining in a search to identify talented young artists. The competition is part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) National Fine Arts Exhibit program. BGCA’s National Fine Arts Exhibit program is a comprehensive initiative promoting young people’s creativity, and encouraging artistic skills and cultural enrichment.
BGCM is taking 15 Club members to the Museum of Modern Art on February 23rd to help them gain exposure to different artistic styles and show them how their work will be displayed at their exhibit. This will be the first trip to a museum for most members attending. Red Bank Unit Art Teacher and the show’s curator, Valentina Arce, stated, “I am so proud of the kids and the art they're doing! The members are really excited for the exhibit, and it give us a chance to show the community some of the wonderful things we are teaching the kids.”
As a participant in the National Fine Arts Exhibit program, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County may submit members’ artwork in four age divisions and 10 categories, including watercolor, pastel, oil, acrylic and collage. Selected artwork will be screened at the regional level and a limited number will be sent to BGCA’s Atlanta headquarters for judging at the national level. Thirty-seven national winners will be named and their artwork displayed at special events throughout the year. Winning artists will also receive engraved plaques and letters of congratulations from BGCA president Jim Clark. Regional finalists will receive a certificate of participation.
