Just Mercy Film to be library discussion
MANALAPAN – Just Mercy, a film depicting the trial of Walter McMillian, will be discussed at a special film discussion presentation of the Monmouth County Library on Thursday, Feb. 11, on a Zoom program open to all who have viewed the film and want to share their thoughts.
Historian Thelma Armstrong, a scholar and cultural activity who studies the ‘lived lives” of members of diverse communicates, will lead the discussion of the two hour, 17 minute long movie directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson and Jamie Foxx.
The film tells the story of attorney Bryan Stevenson and his history making battle for justice when he defended McMillian in a murder trial in Alabama. McMillian, a black man, was sentenced to death for the murder in spite of evidence which probed his innocence, leading Stevenson to fight against the adds in a tangle of legal and political maneuverings.
The presentation is a special film discussion to celebrate Black History Month.
Interested persons should watch the film at their leisure and join the discussion. To reserve DVDs, library members can call their local branch for a copy and pick it up in person or by using the Library’s door-side service after checking monmouthcountylib.org for library service hours.
Registration for the discussion must be completed by noon Feb. 10 and the link will be e-mailed that afternoon between 3 and 4 p.m.
