MIDDLETOWN - The Northern Monmouth County Branch of the American Association of University Women, AAUW, will offer a Half Price Plus Free Book sale Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Sale will be held at the AAUW Used Book shop located in the basement of Old First Church, 69 Kings Highway.
Book sale Chair Mary Anne Anderl announced that this year’s sale will also feature a free cookbook with every purchase, as long as supplies last.
“We anticipate the free cookbooks will be an extra bonus for shoppers looking for both vintage and new books,” said Anderl. “While many people get their recipes online, collectors and foodies like to have hard copies of both ethnic and famous chef recipes for their bookshelves and reference. Sine we have a limited supply of books from a variety of sources, we decided to offer them as a gift for every purchase at the half price sale.”
Included among the cookbooks being offered is one from Moosewood Restaurant , of Ithica, NY. The restaurant has been in business nearly half a century and has been acclaimed as a driving force in the world of creative natural cooking with an emphasis on vegetarian recipes. Named one of the 13 most influential restaurants of the 20th century by Bon Appetit magazine, Moosewood Restaurant books are available online from various sources starting at $15.
Other cookbooks available free with a purchase at the start of the Half Price Sale include vegetarian, ethnic, Julia Childs, fondue, fast and easy as well as recipes for large groups and events.
The half-price sale includes a variety of reading from local and world history to cartoon books and romance novels. Children’s books, both for reading and to be read to, will also be available in addition to books for young adults. Prices will range from $1 for some paperbacks to $1.50 for hard cover books during the half price sale.
The Book Store is open every Saturday at 69 Kings Highway, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. except on holiday weekends.
All proceeds from the sale of books by the AAUW branch help underwrite the costs of the scholarships the Northern Monmouth the County Branch offers to students at both Brookdale Community College and Monmouth University as well as to the female senior with the highest grades in mathematic tics . The Branch also sponsors two attendees at the annual leadership conference in Maryland.
The Branch meets ten times a year as well as several times a month in individual study groups in the areas of French or German conversation, and fiction and non-fiction literature.
