KEYPORT, NJ - The Keyport Yacht Club (KYC) will be hosting the 13th Annual Bill Volk Regatta & Charity Cup June 22-23 in Keyport, NJ. This year’s charity campaign is “Sailing for the Bayshore” to benefit the RAINE (Reaching All In Need Everyday) Foundation of Hazlet, NJ. Sailors from around the Raritan Bay will be racing to help raise funds for those in the Bayshore area most affected by Superstorm Sandy.
“There has been a lot of progress made since Superstorm Sandy devastated our community, but many of our friends and neighbors are still struggling to rebuild,” said Keyport Yacht Club Commodore Ann Quinn. “We have experienced the disruption and cost of rebuilding ourselves and it gives us great satisfaction to be able to help our neighbors.”

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - Patrick Garner as “Mr. Edison” will be at the Middletown Township Public Library on Tuesday, July 23rd at 7:30 pm for a fun-filled presentation about his life, his inventions and the lessons those inventions taught him! Children volunteer to join the “The Wizard of Menlo Park” onstage to act as his “Insomnia Squad.” All children are involved in this highly interactive presentation.
Come meet the man with 1093 US Patents including the Phonograph, the Light Bulb, the Motion Picture Projector , the Universal Stock Ticker, the Alkaline Battery, Talking Dolls, Improved Cement Manufacturing , Electric Generators, the Electric Train, the Tattoo Pen, Wax Paper and all their subsequent manufacturing processes. The Non-Patented but very necessary Modern Research Laboratory! Some historians credit him with inventing the Twentieth Century! Mr. Edison's life & inventions will be used to illustrate “THE FOUR LESSONS OF EDISON”.
Middletown Police Investigating Leonardville Road Crash

MIDDLETOWN, NJ -The Middletown Twp. Police Department continues to investigate a serious motor vehicle crash which occurred on Leonardville Rd near 12th Street Friday Night. Preliminary investigation reveals that a 1999 Chevy Tahoe being operated by Mark Gorski 51 years old from Hazlet was traveling westbound on Leonardville Rd approaching 12th St when a second vehicle a 2013 Ford Mustang being operated by Jacqueline Weidimeyer 23 years old from the Belford section of Middletown made a left turn from 12th St onto Leonardville Rd in front of Mr. Gorski causing Mr. Gorski’s vehicle to strike Ms. Weidimeyer’s vehicle on the driver’s side.
No Lifeguards on Duty, Bathing Prohibited at Middletown Beaches

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - The Middletown Township Recreation Department announces that the Township’s two beaches, Ideal Beach and Leonardo Beach, are open to the public but will not have lifeguards on duty this summer until further notice. Due to conditions that may exist as a result of Superstorm Sandy, bathing is prohibited. For more information call the Recreation Department at 732-615-2260.

Middletown, NJ – On a recent early Saturday morning this May, Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 142, Middletown Village Elementary School, Middletown, joined members of the VFW 2179 and American Legion Post 515 at Fairview Cemetery in placing American flags at the graves of fallen servicemen and servicewomen in preparation for Memorial Day. “With the hectic schedules of families these days, we believe it’s more important than ever to give young citizens time to reflect on the sacrifices others have made for our country,” stated Amy DeSanctis, Cub Master of Pack 142. “Boys tell their den leaders these are the type of activities that make them the most proud. It’s our responsibility in Scouting to provide these opportunities.”
