ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Collage artist Richard Buntzen's opening reception was held September 21 at the Arts Council Gallery, located at the Finelines Building in Atlantic Highlands. This solo exhibition displayed Buntzen’s innovative use of fragments of black and white and color newsprint, demonstrating outstanding examples of creative design. Buntzen’s panel discussion, “What a Good Idea: Innovative Art”, will be held Saturday, October 12, at 2pm at the Arts Council Gallery, 21 W. Lincoln Ave, Atlantic Highlands.
Blue Skies Shining on 2013 Chilifest

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - The Atlantic Highlands Front Porch Club hosted its 9th Annual Chilifest on Saturday, September 28 at the historic Strauss Mansion in Atlantic Highlands. With 39 chili cook-off competitors and 500+ attendees, the Front Porch Club raised over $16,000 to benefit Henry Hudson Regional School and other community organizations. The school intends to use these and additional funds to support the development of state-of-the-art science labs for its students.
New Tri-District Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Susan Compton, commented after the Chilifest totals were in, "I would like to express our appreciation on behalf of the Henry Hudson Regional Board of Education for a tremendous fund raising event in support of our high school students. We are very pleased and honored that the Front Porch Club would utilize this Chilifest as a fund raiser to provide our students with a state-of-the-art science lab that will include lab tables and other equipment. This will make a significant difference in the lives of students and enhancing the science education program."

RAHWAY and BRANCHBURG, NJ - American Repertory Ballet will be bringing 2 different mixed-bill productions to Union County Performing Arts Center’s Hamilton Stage in Rahway, NJ and to The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ over the course of two weekends in October. The company will present American Artist Showcase, featuring works by Gerald Arpino, Patrick Corbin, and ARB Resident Choreographer Mary Barton, at Hamilton Stage October 18-19. On October 26 at 8:00pm, Premieres will take the stage at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College, showcasing brand new works by Kirk Peterson and Mary Barton, and more.
Humanists Celebrate 10th Anniversary Year in Red Bank

RED BANK, NJ - Red Bank Humanists (RBH), a secular Humanist organization, will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a slate of special events, guest speakers, and educational activities from October 2013 through May 2014. The group was founded in 2003 by Ron Steelman and Eric Seldner and first met at the old House of Coffee in the Red Bank Galleria.
“We started out with about 15 people attending our monthly Forums,” said Ron Steelman, “And now we have 75 dues paying members, with an average attendance at the Forums of 55 to 60.”
RBH offers a monthly Forum presented at Red Bank Charter School, a monthly “Drinking Post-Theologically” mixer at the Oyster Point Hotel, a quarterly philosophical Salon to discuss various aspects of secular Humanism in the 21st Century, a popular monthly book club, and the Red Bank Humanists Community Outreach Group, which collects donations of supplies each month and delivers them to local charities.
