SHREWSBURY, NJ - It was an unconventional commemoration to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But the theme of love, perseverance and service shined throughout YMCA of Greater Monmouth County’s first virtual event honoring the civil rights leader.
For 32 years, the Y has brought together community leaders, students, and residents from across Monmouth County to remember Dr. King at the annual memorial service. This year, due to COVID-19, guests joined a live-streamed celebration on January 15 from their homes and offices.
Monmouth County has 350 additional positive cases of COVID-19

FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone and County Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley have announced that today, Jan. 25, there are 350 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Monmouth County. There are no new deaths being reported today related to COVID-19 in Monmouth County.
The County Commissioners and the Monmouth County Health Department (MCHD) are strongly urging residents to do their part to slow the spread by practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering when social distancing is not possible, not gathering in large crowds, washing their hands and staying home when sick.
Colts Neck Team Competes in Virtual Mock Trial

FREEHOLD - Colts Neck High school’s Mock Trial Team took first place in the annual Monmouth County-wide competition, narrowly beating Wall High School in the four day historic event. The team will now advance to regional competition.
Fifteen schools from Monmouth County participated in the event, which has been sponsored by the Monmouth County Bar Association since it was first offered as statewide competition by the State Bar Association decades ago. For the past seven years, Attorney Jonathan Goldstein has volunteered his services as co-chair of the event for several years, with attorney Ellizza Perkins, who was also the co-chair last year.
Care One Residents and Staff Receive 2nd Covid Vaccinations

MIDDLETOWN – Residents and employees of Care One at King James joined together Friday to celebrate the 183 Covid vaccinations that were completed at the care center on Monday. Care Center Administrator Meagan Yorks said all who received the vaccine received celebratory VIP tee shirts to mark the occasion. The VIP shirts identify the residents as Very Important Persons as all are, but especially as VIP, Very Immunized Persons.
The care center was one of the first in New Jersey to receive vaccine Dec. 28 and 144 staff, residents, physicians, the wound care team, and other health care workers received their first vaccine. The 183 who received an injection Monday included the second vaccine for each of them, along with a first inoculation for any staff members who had missed it the first time. They will receive their second injection on Feb. 8.
CASA for Children of Monmouth Brings Smiles to Children in Foster Care, and New Hope for 2021

COLTS NECK, NJ – Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Monmouth brought joy to nearly 200 children in foster care this past holiday season. Through the CASA of Monmouth annual holiday wish list, foster children served by CASA advocates received gifts to celebrate the holidays.
Every year, CASA of Monmouth looks to fulfill the wish lists from the children in the child welfare system served by the program. This effort is done through the generosity of CASA volunteers, community members, CASA staff, CASA Executive Board, and local business sponsors.
